Thanks for the informative blog. I’m currently a second year med student at IMU, bukit jalil. After my graduation, i would like to be a opthamologist and later on sub specialise in corneal surgery. As i will be holding malaysian degree, may i know what should i do after my grad to fulfill this dream? I know it’s quite early to think about it, but planning is the first step in realising the dreams right? Thank you very much
Hi Tan. You’re in luck as in our Doctors’ Sites page, there are two very good websites on post-graduate training in Ophthalmology where you can get more information:
Success in Ophthalmology
Muthusamy Virtual University of Post Graduate Ophthalmology
As an undergraduate in the second year, you have plenty of time ahead to experience the very wide field of medicine so your aspirations can change over time, perhaps shaped and influenced by individuals you come across in the future. So while it is good to have some life goals, don’t be too focused so early on and keep an open mind.
On a similar note, today in the Dobbs forum, a 1st year MO asked about requirements for applying for Masters courses in Malaysia. If you are a young MO, you are most welcome to join in the conversation in Dobbs, the free and exclusive networking community for Malaysian doctors. You’ll find the answers there!
