Good day. :) Finally gave muay thai kickboxing a full swing. It was a little nerve wrecking at first, and I swear I wanted to just die off the first 30minutes because even at my fitness level, it was insanely tiring! :| I can picture myself doing this in the long run and this is exactly what I need to incorporate high intensity cardio into my existing strength training. Oh another good news, sort of convinced a fellow colleague to sign up for the gym and she’s rockin’ it. The frequently asked question whenever I catch up with people about what I’ve been up to revolves around gym and fitness these days. I don’t know how to explain the love to stay healthy and gearing for a killer bod. (it takes time) It’s always difficult to start and I swear the amount of thoughts that goes through your head about how adopting the ‘gymaholic’ lifestyle.

Well, I used to dread hitting the gym because I prefer doing sports over the same similar work out routines which appeared boring to me. Then due to some heavy influence by you know who, boy it was addictive. To feel your fat burning, muscles building and you end up being very careful with what you put into your mouth. The last thing you want is to waste your workout right? Mind over matter. Mind over matter. That’s how I remind myself. The power to isolate your thoughts and focus on the goal. Make realistic goals. When I first started, losing weight ‘as soon as possible’ was never the idea. Nothing good comes easy. I need to find something that I love doing so that I can keep up with it in the long run, especially after child birth etc. I know this is for a lifetime, so why not gear yourself up to pick up the right habits while you’re young? As the saying goes, old habits die hard! :) So you have nothing to worry about as you age because this will stick onto you just like any other habits (SHOPPING,SMOKING ETC). Starting to catch my drift?

If it helps to know, I don’t go on crazy diets but I make it a point to eat right. Trust me, it’s very possible. You just gotta be more selective and not treat your body like some rubbish dump. Everything you consume will have its impact on your system, so eat smart. I wish sticking on a salad based diet and shakes would work for me, but if I’m gonna live like this in the long run; I need to make it work. Pick your favourite food and turn it into the ultra healthy meal. My daily breakfast meal is pretty simple, just half boiled eggs and a slice of bread. A very protein based lunch, and strictly no carbs for dinner. I’ve been having “gym” for dinner to get through the ‘overfeeding’ period; yeah just because it’s dinner its a norm to pig out so make sure you be careful about that.

Don’t be too afraid to talk about your weight issues. Hey it made me so happy receiving emails and messages about the way to go about getting started. Don’t beat yourself up about being overweight or skinny fat, it can be changed and altered. Don’t make it a ‘sensitive’ issue to bring up because to be honest the more you talk about it, the better. It’ll make you walk the talk instead of just talking. You will be surprised with people’s reactions towards the idea of getting healthy. It’s not about losing those digits on the weighing scale. Frankly speaking if you lift weights like me, the digits don’t move as much because they’re replaced with muscles that burns off fat even when you’re not working out. :) When you feel like you’re physically ready to up the tempo, throw in some high intensity cardio. I wish I had the love for training for 42km marathons like Meng Leong but heck I need FUN. Running requires way too much endurance. So I chose muay thai kickboxing instead.

Apart from all the workout, I’m really happy about my work. I actually love my job. Never in my life would I have expected the opportunity to have a full fledged project of my own at my age, and heck most people are assisting or amending works! The trouble with being young in this field, it’s hard to get job opportunities that allow you to exercise your skills and knowledge without compromising your passion in the long run. Who knows, one day you might be hiring me! ;)
